Born in Wisconsin, USA lives and works in Brisbane, Australia

Raised by a biologist and a journalist in the forested stretch of northern Wisconsin, Chris Hagen received a BFA in Digital Art & Photography from the University of Minnesota Duluth. Becoming deeply involved in printmaking during during that time, he practiced and interned at the Highpoint Center for Printmaking, received an MFA in printmaking from the Wonsook-Kim School of Art at Illinois State University, served as an assistant for Normal Editions Workshop, and undertook intensive studies at the Tamarind Institute for Lithography.

Chris practices in Wisconsin/Minnesota and Brisbane, Australia where he co-founded Grey Hand Press with fellow printer Claudia Husband, providing professional hand-printing services in lithography, intaglio, and related media. Chris has served as an instructor at the Queensland College of Art, Brisbane Institute of Art, and local workshop venues. In 2023 he undertook a George Alexander Fellowship researching the sustainability and accessibility of fine art hand lithography in Australia and abroad through the International Specialised Skills Institute.
